Two Souls
Once upon a time there were two souls. And although they came from different places, it was obvious that they were meant to be together. So they decided that when they entered Earth (obviously they would, for what else could souls be for?), they would enter it together. They planned and planned, searching for two woman who would be suitable mothers, and who would not separate their children.

However, once it was time to enter the world, one soul became lost, appearing several days behind and well out of range of the other soul. And so they were separated, both without memories of the other (being infants, how could they retain memory of what came before and what comes after?). This situation was the reality for seven more years, until the natural gravitation of souls that cannot be stopped caused them to be joined again.

And so when the souls became joined again, it was as if meeting someone new, and the two souls relished in the excitement of first introductions of two people who are sure to get along, the tense anticipation of the future that lacks the apprehension so common elsewhere.

The souls were together for a long time, and were happy. And in their happiness, they forgot one of the fundamental rules of life itself: nothing lasts forever, and happiness is the most susceptible to that rule. Eventually, they were separated again, and both souls suffered greatly for it, already connected nearly as much as they had been before and would be after.

And one soul felt torn, and the other soul lost, and they were left with fewer memories than was their right, waiting for the natural gravitation to cease it's painful workings on their heart, and start closing the gaping wound of their physical distance.
